About Les Otten

Les Otten

Les Otten has created jobs and promoted business and tourism in Northern New England for the last 37 years.

Les has served as CEO of the American Skiing Company and is one of the founders of Maine Energy Systems, among other business ventures. He is also a former candidate for governor of Maine.

Otten also led the successful purchase of the Boston Red Sox in 2002 with a group of owners committed to saving a treasured New England jewel, Fenway Park.

Les is deeply involved with philanthropic activities, including the Maine Adaptive Sports and  Recreation, Western Maine Alliance, and Portland Museum of Art.

Seminar Topic: Disruptive Innovation

Up close and personal at UNH's "techy bistro" space, Les will present his thoughts on how changemakers and innovators can overcome organizational inertia to break through with new ideas, products, and businesses. His fresh look on the value of challenging status quos will inspire entrepreneurs of all stripes.

About the Get (Started) Up! Breakfast Series:

NH-ICC Managing Director Mark Galvin and UNH ORPC Executive Director Marc Sedam joined forces this spring to teach a new course for undergraduates at UNH's Whittemore School of Business and Economics: Creating Successful Startup Businesses (MGMT 798). The course exploits opportunities created by change and innovation and proves the role of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial teams in managing new ventures.

The Get (Started) Up Seminar Series brings notable entrepreneurs and innovators to the UNH-Durham campus to talk to both UNH students and community members about their business experiences.

The Seminar Series will run throughout February, March, and April. To learn more about upcoming seminars, register now and join the NH-ICC email list.
